Who would you become if you could invent your own magical character?
A City Dryad, Urban Alchemist, Raven, Cat Spirit, Oracle or a creature that has never existed before?
In this collaborative workshop, you’ll invent your own magical Avatar and bring it to life by creating a professional-quality piece of art. Depending on your vision, that might become a sculptural mask, an elaborate crown, a dramatic headpiece, horns, branches, moons, stars whatever belongs to your character.
This is not a Halloween craft workshop.
The goal is to create a wearable piece of art — expressive, imaginative and visually striking — that transforms you into your Magical Avatar.
No drawing or magical art experience is necessary.
The Workshop
Two core evenings to design and create your piece, plus an optional third evening to deepen your creation.
We will explore the landscape of the City magical creatures, their imagery, symbolism and personalities. Choose the character you want to embody, develop your interpretation through sketches, and design your sculptural mask, headpiece or both. Then we will begin constructing the foundation of your wearable piece.
Continue building your sculptural mask or headpiece and bring your character to life through form, texture, color and detail. You will learn techniques for constructing, shaping, sculpting and painting a professional-quality wearable artwork while developing your own individual interpretation of your character. Basic mask-making, sculptural and painting materials are included.
For those who want to take their character further, we'll have an optional third studio evening. Complete your mask or headpiece, add more elaborate details, or create another attribute for your character — a crown, collar, jewelry, staff or other sculptural element.

The Masquerade
The project doesn't end in the studio. Around Halloween, we will meet again wearing our creations for a masquerade-inspired photo shoot and small Halloween procession.
Each participant will be photographed as their chosen magical Avatar, and together our portraits can become a collaborative art series — and perhaps eventually our own story deck.
The photo shoot and procession are free for workshop participants.
